Vida learned this week that NICHD has awarded continuing funding for the phase II portion of our All Babies Cry project. Working with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and five regional hospitals, Vida will test an educational intervention designed to help new parents cope with the stresses brought on by crying infants. The intervention will be delivered to parents at hospital bedside as part of the DPH directive to educate all new parents about the dangers of shaken baby syndrome. The intervention is in two parts. Part one is a short video shown to both parents in the hospital before discharge. Part two is a take-home piece consisting of a longer, modular DVD and companion booklet. Production of the videos and booklet is scheduled to be completed by May-June. To stay updated about the progress of this and other health research activities at Vida please subscribe to this blog.
